The Mold Remediation Process

1. Understand the source and scope

• Identify active leaks or moisture conditions and determine what materials are affected.

2. Control the work area

• Containment and protective measures are selected based on the scope and the risk of disturbing affected materials.

3. Clean or remove affected materials

• Non-porous and some semi-porous materials may be cleanable depending on condition.
• Heavily affected porous materials can require removal.

4. Dry and correct moisture

• The area should be dried and the water problem corrected before reconstruction or finishing work.
• Painting over mold before cleanup and drying is not an effective remedy.
